The Morning the Ocean Left Me a Starfish

Dramatic fiery sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean on Amelia Island, Florida

It was 5 o'clock in the morning when my alarm went off on the last day of my stay in Amelia Island, Florida.

I didn't hesitate for a single second.

I pulled on my shoes, grabbed my phone, and walked down to the shore β€” alone, before the rest of the world woke up β€” to witness one final sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. What happened next was one of those mornings you carry with you forever. 🌊⭐

A Sky on Fire

The clouds were dramatic that morning β€” rolling and heavy, painted in shades of deep crimson, burnt orange, and gold. The sun pushed through them like it was determined to be seen, casting a long golden path of light straight across the water toward the shore.

I just stood there. Breathless.

There were no other people on the beach. Just me, the ocean, and a sky that looked like it was on fire. πŸ”₯

The Gift the Ocean Left Behind

As I walked along the shoreline, something caught my eye in the wet sand.

A starfish. 🌟

I reached down and touched it gently β€” and it was still, cool, and perfectly formed. The ocean had carried it all the way to shore and left it there, right in my path, on my last morning.

I picked it up carefully and held it in my hands. In that moment, surrounded by that extraordinary sky, with the waves rolling in at my feet, I felt something I can only describe as pure gratitude. For the beauty of this place. For the privilege of witnessing it. For the life I am building β€” one wire wrap at a time.

The starfish came home with me. 🐚

Where the Ocean Meets Art

I am Elena Makievsky β€” the artist and founder of Simply Wrapped Jewelry. I create handcrafted wire-wrapped jewelry from natural gemstones, freshwater pearls, and treasures found in nature.

And sometimes β€” literally from the sea itself.

Years ago, walking this very same beach, I found a shell unlike any other. Its shape was extraordinary β€” organic, textured, full of character. I knew immediately it was meant to become something more. I brought it home, sat down at my workbench, and began to wrap.

What emerged was the Madonna Pendant β€” a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art that carries the spirit of the ocean in every curve. πŸšπŸ’

There is only one in the world. Because there was only one shell like that in the world. And the ocean gave it to me.
